Schedule, Workshop

The activity consists of an urban exhibition, at street level, which seeks a more humane view of all those who at a given moment in history or present time had to move, forcibly migrate from their respective countries, to other locations, leaving behind their homes and having to face the learning of other languages, the “clash” of cultures and customs and assume as “transterrados”.

While the passersby walk through the enclosure of tables and workshops, they will meet some transterrados, known or anonymous, who will be -like themselves- passersby, immortalized in images and texts that recall their experiences.
Through a QR code users of the Night of the Researchers will access additional information collected on a website designed and made for the occasion by the coordinators of the activity. The website will include both the definition of key concepts and brief normative and bibliographical references to deepen further on this subject, as well as the tools used by the/researchers for the study of these historical phenomena and subjects.

In this way, the exhibition captures specific moments of exile, forced migrations, from the 16th to the 21st century, which can arouse curiosity and interest both to know these migratory phenomena themselves (causes, consequences, protagonists) as its forms and possibilities of study from a historical perspective (sources, approaches, debates). Hence the question, what if it was you?

The main objective is to show forced migratory movements in their contexts, facilitating their understanding and thereby motivating empathy with those who have played them, both in past times and in the present. The expected result is to motivate a society more supportive, conducive to inclusion and open to multicultural dynamics.

The activity between areas of knowledge is framed in several lines and research projects developed in the Department of Modern, Contemporary History, of America and of the Political and Social Movements of the University of Murcia. On the one hand, the Hispanofilia projects (National Science Plan, 2008-present), in which the coordinators have been part as researchers. Also the project Humanitarian Aid, war conflicts and population displacements (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. General Directorate of Scientific and Technical Research, UNED). In addition to the research group Rethink the margins, coordinated by Ana Díaz, and the group America and Spain, yesterday and today (E0C5-01) of which Magdalena Garrido is part.
