Main event ERN 2023 -UV-Workshop-“Virus hunters”

The “Virus Hunters” workshop has the objective of researching phages, bacterial viruses, damage to multi-resistant bacteria. The misuse of antibiotics has favoured the emergence of multiresistant bacteria, and today it is a global health problem. In the absence of current treatments, alternative therapeutic approaches have been investigated that allow treating bacterial infections specifically and effectively. In this sense, the phages, bacterial viruses, are postulated as a promising cause in the litter against multiresistant bacteria.
The purpose of the workshop is to contribute to understanding the problem of resistant bacteria, along with the use of phages as antimicrobial therapy. We will do a little field work to the research of phages on the surroundings and we will treat the samples to isolate them. The workshop can be adapted to all levels, including primary and secondary education and baccalaureate.
