Main Event ERN UA -2022- Workshop “Masks of the world, identity or disguise?”
30/09/2022
This workshop will show several types of face covering, their functions and meanings depending on the social and cultural context, introducing children and young people to anthropological reflection.
Masks have attracted interest not only from an ethnological perspective, but also with a view to working out the meaning and social functions of face coverings. In fact, face coverings and their place in the public sphere have always been at the forefront of debates, particularly in the West.
The activity has three parts:
- Exhibition of explanatory panels on different types of masks, their uses and history.
- Exhibition of real masks with an explanation about their uses and meanings.
- Making of masks by participants. They will have several mask models (ritual, shamanic or theatre masks, among others) to choose from, printed on card stock. They will cut out, paint and decorate the masks using various materials and paints (felt-tip pens, crayons, feathers, pompoms, glitter, wool, buttons).
