The objectives of this scientific experiment are to:

1. Understand, at a molecular level, the effects of polarity on the surface tension of water.

In the first activity, you will make your own water treatment system and observe its operation depending on whether you use sand, activated carbon or charcoal. In the second activity, those interested will place a clip on the surface of the water, compare how water behaves with a less polar liquid such as alcohol, and how soap affects the surface tension of water. All these phenomena will be explained from a molecular level.

After having carried out the experiments, the properties of water are discussed: What would happen if water did not have all its special properties? What aspects of the world would be different? Imagine how strange the world would be if water were different. For example: what if water was sticky and adhered to many substances?.
