This activity will show the results of the OSMOTIC SEAGRASS project, conducted within the Marie Sklodowska-Curie (888415) programme, and how seagrass meadows are affected by desalination.

There will be an aquarium with artificial specimens of Posidonia oceanica. Brine will be added and samples taken to demonstrate how antioxidants are produced in response to salt stress. A compound will be added to the samples to allow colorimetric analysis and see how plants produce antioxidants when exposed to high salinity. Finally, there will be a game for children of all ages to understand the desalination process, seagrass ecosystems and their importance for the environment and for human beings.
